Leigh Reynolds Byers is #goodwithmoney

The Wealth Edit has kicked off its Good with Money Challenge, where, from June 1 to August 15, participants will aim to save $5,000 – and learn useful savings tips in the process. Throughout these 75 days, we’re featuring women who are #goodwithmoney – hopefully they’ll inspire you through their tips and tricks to realize that you are also good with money and, like the rest of us, getting better every day.

My quick tip would be to minimize and organize your stuff and your money.

Stuff: We live in a world where we are bombarded with stuff, and our culture puts an emphasis on possessions – buy, buy, buy. Anytime I buy anything, I see it as a commitment. I picture it eventually ending up in a landfill. Ownership comes with responsibility, not only for the environment, but also my own personal happiness and clutter management. For me, too much clutter leads to anxiety. More stuff rarely makes my life better.

Money: Money today is mostly invisible (credit cards, PayPal, Venmo, one-click shopping), so it’s easy to lose the thread on the responsibility of ownership, and it’s also easy to lose track of where money comes from and, even more so, where it goes. I try to never save my credit card for online shopping. If I want something, I have to get up and find my wallet. Don’t make it too easy to just spend without intention.
